Junior College Checklist

Fall 

· Attend In-State and Out-of-State College Fairs. 
· Attend Conifer High School’s college fair at high school. 
· Take the PSAT, the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in October. 
· Attend college representative visits at CHS. 
· Be aware of career and college opportunities through Post Grad Center. 
· Explore your options and start researching schools NOW! 
· Spend a lot of time on Family Connections (Naviance), register if you have not yet.. 
· Start exploring college search and college matches on Family Connections. 

Winter 

Begin touring college campuses. Check with individual colleges for visitation dates for high school juniors. 
Discuss criteria for selecting colleges to investigate. 

Spring 

· Attend Junior individual meeting with your counselor. 
· Attend college information sessions about specific colleges held throughout Denver. 
· Attend the Denver Spring College Fair at the University of Denver. 
· Register for and take college entrance exam(s), ACT and/or SAT, and SAT Subject Tests (as needed). 
· Take applicable Advanced Placement tests. 
· Continue meeting with college representatives visiting CHS. 
· Begin researching scholarship opportunities posted on the Post-Grad Center scholarship boards as well as on Fast Web (www.fastweb.com). 
· Begin the service academy application process by contacting the academies and by seeking nominations from senators or representatives (see counselors for contact info). 
· Continue touring college campuses. Check with individual colleges for visitation dates. 
· Build a list of possible college choices. 

Summer 

· All athletes interested in participating in athletics in college need to register online with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Clearinghouse (ncaaclearinghouse.net.) See Mr. Neuenschwander for more complete information regarding NCAA eligibility requirements. 
· Do something significant. College applications include areas for employment and volunteer work. 
· Visit colleges. 
· Organize your materials, for example, use file folders for each aspect of college such as essays, letters of recommendation, college search information, etc. 
· Continue researching and identifying colleges to which you want to apply. 
· Continue researching majors and careers. 
· Register for ACT / SAT if you need to test again. 
· Begin your resume – include activities, academics, community service, and work. 
· Identify teachers from whom you can request letters of recommendation.
