My name is Rachel Haggett and I am the Teen Services Librarian at the Evergreen branch of the Jefferson County Public Library system. I am writing to pass along some information about some upcoming teen events we will be having at the Evergreen Library in September and October and beyond. These may be of interest to you and your students.
-Write On! Teen Writing Group, Last Thursday of the Month, September 28th, October 26th, November 30th, December 28th, 3:30-4:30 pm- Teen writers of poetry, short stories, and novels… gather! Being in the company of like-minded people is a great way to find your voice. Our Teen Writing Group is the perfect place to share your work and explore writing styles and topics to help you realize your potential as a writer. No registration required.
 
-Learn from the Experts: What You Need to Know About College Admissions and the SAT, Thursday, September 28th, 6:30-7:30 pm
Are you planning to attend college? Wondering whether you should take the SAT, ACT or both? How do colleges look at test scores as part of your application? Attend and find out!
Ben Baron, former Assistant Director of MBA Admissions at Harvard University and founder of CollegeDrive Test Prep and Tutoring, and Susan Zinanti, former Assistant Director of Admissions at DU and Manager of Educational Services at CollegeDrive discuss the difference between the SAT and ACT, offer insights into the importance of standardized test scores in the college admissions process, and share proven strategies for mastering your college admission tests.

-Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie, Friday, September 29th, 5:30-7:45 pm- Superheroes abound! We’re showing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on the big screen at the library. Watch the Guardians travel through the cosmos as they help Peter learn about his mysterious parentage. Snacks will be provided! No registration required.
 
-Get Cracking on Code! Thursday, October 12thand Thursday, November 9th, 4:00-5:00 pm- Learn the basics of computer programming through the use of free coding sites in a fun and creative environment. No programming experience is needed, just a positive attitude and a desire to build some cool games. Teens develop confidence in their ability to apply programming techniques to problems in a broad range of fields. We use Scratch, JavaScript, and codeHS.com to solve all the world's problems. Attend one class or do the entire series! Registration required at www.jeffcolibrary.org/teen/teen-events.
 
-Evergreen Anime, One Friday per month, October 13th, November 17th, December 8th, 4-5 pm- Interested in Anime? We're screening new and old favorites over good snacks and great discussions. Costumes welcome! Registration not required.
 
-Friday the 13th Fun, Friday, October 13th, 5:30-7:30 pm- Don't cross paths with any black cats, walk under any ladders, or break any mirrors getting to the library for a night of superstitious and scary activities and snacks! Registration not required.
 
-College Application Workshop, Thursday, October 19th, 6:30-7:30 pm-  Are you ready to apply to your dream college but not sure where to start? College Admissions Expert Karen Fong Donoghue walks rising seniors and their parents through the application process. We'll discuss essays, introduce deadlines, and provide tips on how to improve your odds of getting into your schools of choice. Highly encouraged for both senior students and parents! Suitable for teens and their parents. -Bestsellers to Blockbusters, Fridays, October 27th, December 22nd, 5:30-7:30- Is the book always better than the movie? Come find out! We will have a short discussion of these popular books and then watch the movie adaptation. Snacks provided. October’s title is Divergent and December’s title is Doctor Strange. Registration not required.
Attached are some promotional materials for these events. If you have some way of getting these to your students and parents, either by passing these on in e-mail, electronic newsletter, posting hard copies in the office or around the school, etc. this would be great.
