Special Education
Special education at Conifer High School ensures accessibility for students with IEPs through appropriate instruction and accommodations for each student. Gaining independence and working toward postsecondary readiness are goals of the department, which is done through continual work inside and outside of the classroom. We hope to build our students' confidence and comfort within the academic setting that can be transferred into their personal lives.
Inclusionary Supports
Co-taught classes
Students with IEPs have the option, as needed, to be in a classroom that includes some students with IEPs and some without. There is a special education teacher and a core-subject teacher in the classroom together. This allows for peer interaction, continuing with grade-level standards, but with two teachers there is the ability to have small group and individual instruction.
General education
All students with IEPs are welcome to any class! When appropriate, their individual accommodations will be implemented in the classroom.
Challenge Support Program
Students qualifying for the Significant Support Needs (SSN) Center program are graded using Extended Evidence Outcomes (EEOs), which align with state standards in each core subject area, but take into account the support needed for students to make progress depending on their ability level in many areas. Students in this program also have the flexibility to attend other levels of classes in the school as appropriate.
