Tech for Ed in Jeffco

Jeffco Public School’s 1:1 program provides first- through 12th-grade students in neighborhood and option schools a district Chromebook. This creates an equitable and sustainable model for technology-enabled classrooms that prepares students to thrive in a connected, digital world in alignment with the Jeffco Thrives Strategic Plan.

All students can access a district-purchased and managed Chromebook to personalize their learning. This closes the digital device divide and addresses the inequities in classrooms to transform learning.

Students in grades K-12 can also access a variety of digital applications and consistent tools that give them opportunities to demonstrate learning in creative and challenging ways. Each of the technology tools supports students as creators, collaborators and innovative problem solvers rather than as consumers of information.

The program also allows for professional development and learning for teachers to use the provided tools and devices to transform student learning experiences. Having consistent tools and opportunities for teacher training allows for more challenging learning and student engagement and deeper technology integration.

Chromebook care and repair

  1. Troubleshoot first.

  2. Then, if the Chromebook needs repair, students should the device to the library.

  3. If library staff or IT cannot fix the school-owned Chromebook in-house, students will be given a hot-swapped device permanently to use for the remainder of their time in a Jeffco school.

A consistent core set of applications allows for student data privacy aligned to state legislation and seamless access for personalized learning. This includes single sign-on (SSO) and integration of applications.

Digital Learning Application Instructional Intent
Actively Learn Actively Learn allows you to engage students through texts (and videos) for ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Scaffolds and higher-order questions are available to support students in reading and engaging with these texts.
Adobe Spark Adobe Spark is an integrated suite of media creation applications for mobile and web developed by Adobe Systems. It comprises three separate design apps: Spark Page, Spark Post, and Spark Video.
Book Creator "Book Creator is the simple way to make your own publishable ebooks. Add video and music, and even record your voice. Use the pen tool to draw and annotate your book.
Canva Canva is a tool students can use to create digital graphics and infographics. Students can use existing templates or create their own designs. Canva is an excellent tool for creating posters, memes, logos and other digital graphics.
Common Sense Media Teach lessons on digital citizenship
CommonLit CommonLit is free reading passages for grade 5-12. They are common core aligned and offer paired text and text based questions and discussions online. You can assign reading passages to groups of students and have them complete the assignments online.

Discovery Education Streaming Discovery Education partners with school districts to provide Digital textbooks, standards-aligned curricular resources, and transformative professional development to support schools as they make their digital transition and conversion.
EasyBib EasyBib is an online resource to help students generate citations and create bibliographies.
Edgenuity Edgenuity is a licensed digital content LMS aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards for grades 6-12. Edgenuity's system has a mastery-based component that allows students multiple attempts at quizzes and tests. It is available for use in Jeffco once a school purchases a license package with Edgenuity. Edgenuity can be used for credit recovery, intervention and blended learning

EquatIO EquatIO is a Google Extension that allows you to easily add equations, formulas, graphs and more to G Suite for Education apps. Hand write or dictate any expression with no tricky symbols, coding or math languages to master. All Jeffco 5-12 grade students have access to premium EquatIO accounts through #TechforEd.

Google Chat Google Chat is a communication app that supports text-based communication between Google users. Chat is available for Jeffco Staff and K-12th grade students. Chat history is stored in Google Vault for security purposes.
Google Chrome Google Chrome - Free web browser developed by Google. It can be used to add a variety of extensions and add-ons.
Google Classroom Google Classroom - A blended learning platform for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way
Google Docs Google Docs - A web-based application in which documents can be created, edited and stored online. Sharing options enable real-time collaboration with others. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a full-featured Web browser.
Google Drawings Google Drawings allows users to collaborate and work together in real time to create flowcharts, organisational charts, website wireframes, mind maps, concept maps, and other types of diagrams.
Google Drive Google Drive - Store your files securely and access them from any device using Google Drive. You can also open and edit your files from any device. Sharing options enable realtime collaboration with other users.
Google Earth Google Earth - A geobrowser that accesses satellite and aerial imagery, ocean bathymetry, and other geographic data over the internet to represent the Earth as a three-dimensional globe.
Google Forms Google Forms - is a tool that is part of Google Drive for creating surveys, tests, or web input forms. Google forms allows anyone to create an easy to use web form, tie it to a spreadsheet where you can track and analyze results.
Google Keep Google Keep is a digital board for note-taking. Google Keep enables users to collect photos, notes, to-do lists, voice notes and more. You can organize your notes and details in a way that makes sense to your personal organization structures. Google Keep offers a streamlined and simple interface that makes it simple for users to access their stored content. Users can share and collaborate on notes, as well.
Google Meet Google Meet is a conferencing tool available that supports communication with others, both inside or outside of the district. Students do not have access to creating meets. Users can have collaborative, 2-way conversations and share their screens, as well. You may join a Google meet by phone or by video/webcam.

Students are able to join Meet sessions, but are unable to create their own.
Google MyMaps Google My Maps is your way to keep track of the places that matter to you. Easily make custom maps to remember your favorite places, explore new cities, or demonstrate understanding.
Google Sheets Google Sheets - A web-based application in which spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. Sharing options enable real-time collaboration with others. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a full-featured Web browser.Google Sheets -

Google Slides A web-based application in which presentations can be created, edited and stored online. Sharing options enable real-time collaboration with others. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a full-featured Web browser.
Google Takeout Google Takeout allows users to export their Google Drive files as well as YouTube and Gmail data into a downloadable zip drive. With a few easy steps, users can create an archive to keep for their records. They can also import these files into another service or Google account. Takeout is currently only available for high school students and is not available for Jeffco staff.
Jamboard Google's newest app, Jamboard, is a collaborative whiteboard that you can use to create and edit content with others. What used to requires the purchase of an expensive piece of hardware is now available on the web and as a mobile app (Android and iPad). Unleash your creativity by sketching, adding images, creating notes, and embedding content from your Google drive while collaborating from anywhere!
Kahoot Kahoot allows users to create game based formative assessments using multiple choice questions. Kahoot provides a fun interactive platform for students which includes avatars, leaderboards, themes, and music. Teachers are provided with detailed class and student-level data.

Khan Academy Khan Academy is a personalized learning resource for all ages. The website offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empowers learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom.
LearnZillion LearnZillion is a website with a database of over 2,000 short, teacher created and standards based lesson plans. The videos are broken down by grade level, by subject area (Math or ELA), and by standard.

NearPod interactive online lessons with engaging media and formative assessment
Newsela Newsela is a website that allows students to access news stories from several sources that match their reading level (measured by Lexile score) as well as age appropriateness. Teachers have access to hundreds of leveled news articles and Common Core-aligned quizzes, with new articles every day. Articles can be tranlated into Spanish.
NWEA MAP Testing The NWEA MAP Testing app enables students to take assessments using touchscreen technology.
Padlet Padlet is a free application that allows users to create an online bulletin board that students can use to collaborate on and share ideas. Create an account using your Jeffco Google log in. You can add images, links, videos, and more. Padlet can be projected to your whole class, used on individual devices, or embedded into a Schoology page.

Read&Write for Google Read & Write for Google - Assistive technology for reading, writing, and language learning. Great for people with learning disabiliites, dyslexia, or visual impairments.
Schoology Schoology is our district supported online course management system. It allows teachers to create and manage academic courses for their students online in a flipped clasroom environment. It provides teachers with a platform for managing lessons, engaging students, sharing content, and connecting with other educators.

Securly Classroom Securly Classroom is a cloud-based classroom management tool for Chrome, giving teachers new freedom to guide, monitor and communicate with students during in-person or remote learning.
SoundTrap Soundtrap is a digital audio workstation (DAW) accessible directly in your browser from a variety of devices, such as Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Linux, Android phones and tablets and iPads. Use Soundtrap by yourself to create your next hit or collaborate in the music making with people from all over the world.

WeVideo WeVideo is an online video creation program/website for video editing.
YouTube YouTube is a video-sharing website owned by Google. The site allows users to upload, view, and share videos. Available content includes video clips, TV show clips, music videos, short and documentary films, audio recordings, and movie trailers. Students have access to content that is approved for Jeffco.
Zoom Zoom is a conferencing tool available to Jeffco that supports communication during remote learning. Students cannot currently generate new Zoom meetings; however, they are able to join meetings hosted by their teacher to allow for 1-on-1, small group, or whole class sessions. Students are not able to remain in a Zoom room without a teacher present.
